How to Create Audiograms for your Podcast: Wavve vs Headliner
If you have a podcast, how can you share your audio content on social media?
Unlike photos and videos, getting audio content onto social media is not easy.
Or is it…!
Creating audiograms presents a perfect way to share audio content on social media.
Sounds great but what is an audiogram?
Audiograms are short audio files that have been converted into a video file.
They are created by pairing together a section of audio with an image.
When you hit play on the file you hear the audio snippet, which is usually taken from a podcast episode. Quite often hitting pay also triggers an animation of a moving audio wave.
You can create some really awesome designs, with very engaging moving audio waves that make the audiogram really POP OUT when shared on social media.
At Content 10x we think audiograms are great!
We love creating them for our own podcast, and we love creating them for our clients as well.
Here’s an example of one…
If you head over to our Instagram page you’ll see lots and lots of examples of audiograms.
How to create audiograms
You don’t need to be a programmer to learn how to create audiograms — likely you’ll be pleased to hear!
There are tools / software that are very easy to use.
My two faves are Wavve and Headliner because they’ve got a ton of great features and they’re FREE (Wavve is free to a point)!
What’s more, you don’t have to be a podcaster to share audio across your social media channels. You can record yourself talking using both of these apps and then share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram etc. So basically, you can share your voice with or without a podcast!
But, if you DO decide to create a podcast, we’ve got plenty of advice for you on the Content 10x website. We’re massive podcast enthusiasts here! Check out Repurposing Your Video By Launching A (Brand New) Podcast and also check out Epic Podcast Repurposing.
Here is an easy-to-follow tutorial that I created for Wavve AND Headliner where I show you the basics of how to create audiograms.
How much do they cost?
Wavve offers a free option that allows you to create videos up to 24 seconds long. But if you want longer videos, you need to join one of their payment plans.
There are three to choose from, named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Prices range from $10 to $30 per month (at the time of writing this) — obviously the more you’re willing to pay, the more features you’ll get in return!
However, Headliner is 100% free (currently).
Features: Wavve Vs. Headliner
As you can see from my tutorial, Wavve has dozens of great features and benefits of using the app.
Here are some of Wavve’s top features:
- Create templates for future use
- Publish your audiogram on social media from the app
- Easy-to-use interface
- Includes a variety of fonts, animations, and other customization options
- Record audio straight onto the app
Headliner, on the other hand, is a lot like a video editing software. Its interface isn’t as sleek and user-friendly as Wavve, but it’s still very easy to use.
Here are some of Headliner’s best features:
- You can add automatic audio captions
- Multiple sound wave animation options to choose from
- Share your audiogram on social media directly from the app
- Include text, images, and animations in your video
- Choose from a range of video editing options and transitions such as fade in, fade out, etc.
At Content 10x we use Wavve, but both tools are very good.
Why you NEED to start using audiograms
Audiograms have really taken off lately. It’s like an audio epidemic, and I am ALL for it!
Audio content is powerful stuff.
When a listener tunes into your podcast, they become consumed by it. They give you their complete focus and attention. Before you know it, you’ve got a devoted listener who’s telling other people about your show — excellent!
Yet, getting your podcast noticed on social media is incredibly difficult. Sure, you could write up a nice post and ask people to click on your link, but it won’t get you much engagement.
Audiograms catch people’s eyes and get them to stop scrolling long enough to have a listen to your audio content.
…And that’s exactly what you want them to do!
Breathe life into your content creation strategy with audiograms!
In case you need more convincing about the benefits of using audiograms, here’s some statistics from experiments carried out by the New York Public Radio WNYC.
- The average engagement for an audiogram posted on Twitter is 8x higher than a non-audiogram tweet!
- On Facebook, posts with audiograms outperformed those with photos and links by up to 83%!

Audiograms are a BIG part of our content creation strategy at Content 10x. But if I had to share one final piece of advice for you on how to create audiograms, it’s to keep your audiograms short!
A short audiogram, around 30 seconds or so, is the best way to grab people’s attention before they see another cute puppy video in their newsfeed and get distracted! (Although…who can blame them?)
